Wow, I can't believe how quickly time has flown by and we are not prepared in the least for spring or the move. This week we had planned on spending the entire week at the homestead and start building the outdoor kitchen and earthen oven. Unfortunately the Suburban broke down a few weeks ago and is still not up and running. Without it we can't take the whole family up there and get to work. We also have not been able to make the drive in my little compact because the gravel road was too muddy. Fear not though, I will be headed up there tonight along with one of my older sons to at least do some prep work on the property. What might that be you ask? I have no idea, we had originally planned on going up several times before spring break to get a driveway marked and put in, a container delivered to store things in, and even a load of sand and gravel delivered for the cob oven and the houses foundation and earthen floor. Alas this has not come to pass. So we are quite behind on our plans. Hopefully we can spend this time figuring the layout of the property and locations of the house and outbuildings.
On the home-front preparing for the move we have been sorely lacking in our preparations. Back in January we had planned on giving ourselves 2 weeks per room to have it cleaned and packed up. This would have given us plenty of time to figure out what we were keeping, giving away and tossing. So far only half of one bathroom is packed up :( I am nearing the end of my college degree and this past term had a lot of course work, I was so busy with work and school that the house packing and even planning got put off every week. Now here we are with 12 weeks until we move and I don't even have my design finalized for the homestead let alone purged the house. The only good news is that we have been stocking up on dried food, spices, and canning quite a bit of soups, stew and chili. I think I might have too much because I am running out of places to put the food without being in the way. We have got to hunker down and get this house packed while also planning and spending weekends at the homestead to get it started as well. Oh my I feel the pressure now...
